Life as an international student pursuing a master’s degree in NYCU GMBA
Everyday life in Taiwan is full of surprises. Living and studying in Taiwan as a business student at NYCU has been an extraordinary journey. Even though Global MBA is an English-taught program, we are surrounded mainly by Mandarin speakers outside the classroom. Studying Mandarin and immersing myself in Taiwanese culture is culturally and academically challenging.
The Mandarin courses at NYCU are well-structured and cater to all proficiency levels, from beginners to advanced learners. Our highly professional and passionate teachers create interactive and engaging learning environments. More than learning Mandarin from textbooks is required, there are interesting courses for international students that make studying Mandarin much more enjoyable and practical, such as learning Mandarin from songs, listening to podcasts, watching films and Chinese culture, and learning technical Chinese. Additionally, cultural activities are organized through the Chinese cultural salon and Chinese table.
My campus life is vibrant and diverse!. I have joined many cultural activities and Mandarin classes, which have helped me make friends from not only Taiwanese but also friends from around the world, given me a deeper understanding of Taiwanese culture, and provided opportunities to practice the language.
Of course, learning and adapting to a new culture comes with its challenges. The initial language barriers and cultural differences were sometimes confusing, but these challenges have made me stronger, more adaptable, and more open-minded. Not only improving the language but also gaining a unique perspective and enjoying a rich cultural life.
